National Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center

The old Coast Guard Station on Crissy Field is home to the Sanctuary Visitor Center.

Come explore the visitor center located on beautifully restored Crissy Field in the Presidio of San Francisco. Experience the wonders of our National Marine Sanctuaries found just outside the Golden Gate Bridge. See the stunning 15 foot tall ocean mural on the walls, get your hands wet in the touch tank, discover the exciting adventures that await you in the Sanctuaries’ waters, and learn how to get involved in protecting our local marine environment. It’s a great place to bring young people and spend a day at the beach.
Location: West Crissy Field, near Old Mason Street in Golden Gate National Recreation Area of San Francisco (map)
Phone: (415) 561-6625
Days: Wednesday through Sunday

Visitor Center volunteers help educate the public about the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. In 2000, visitor center volunteers donated 500 hours for an equivalent value of $8,500 and educated 20,000 visitors about the National Marine Sanctuary mission and programs. For information on volunteer opportunities contact the Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association.
